Repeat Prescriptions

All our repeat prescriptions are computer generated. Items that the doctors intend to be repeated are printed on the right hand side of the prescription tear off slip.

If you require a repeat prescription, tick the appropriate item and leave the tear off slip in the box provided in reception. Similarly you can order a repeat prescription by telephoning 028 9331 5802 between 09:30 - 11:30 and 14:00 - 15:30.

Alternatively you can now order online by following the link at the bottom of the homepage and completing a simple registration process.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.

Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

Please allow 72 hours for prescriptions to be processed and ready at your pharmacy of choice and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

Prescribing Policy

• We are currently revising our prescribing choices to ensure best use of NHS resources.  This is a province wide cost savings initiative. 

• We may contact you with regard to review of your current medication to ensure quality prescribing.

• We do not expect you to experience any adverse effects as a result of these changes.

• We hope that you will support the practice as we endeavour to make cost savings in our prescribing budget.

• If you have any queries regarding any changes, please contact the practice

• Certain specialised drugs require regular blood monitoring.  Examples include (but are not limited to) Methotrexate, Azathioprine, Lithium, Sulfasalazine and Ciclosporin

• Monitoring enables the GP to safely prescribe for you.

• The exact monitoring bloods, and frequency required, has been decided by experts in the area.

• Monitoring is provided by our nursing staff and will be set up when medication is started.

Do's and Don'ts

Please ensure that:

• You only order what you require on its due date.
• You give 72 hours notice for ordering via telephone or front desk and ALL online order requests -  for collection at a local pharmacy
• Your medication doesn't run out before you re-order.
• If you have had medication before but it is no longer on repeat please provide the patient services advisor with details of which doctor prescribed it and the correct name of the medication.
• You watch for patient notices in relation to ordering and collecting at holiday time.

Please do not:

• Order antibiotics, flu medications or cough bottles for colds and flu. You can usually purchase appropriate remedies from the pharmacy.
• Forget to collect your prescription - Uncollected prescriptions are destroyed every 2 weeks resulting in a waste of time and resources.
• Ask for medication to take on holiday - The practice does not prescribe antibiotics and remedies for "just in case" scenarios.

CHANGES TO COMMUNITY PHARMACY ROTA IN NORTHERN AREA

Following consultation with the Community/Voluntary and Elected Representatives Engagement Forum, the following change will be implemented in the Northern area:

The Sunday & Public Holiday rotas will cease in Carrickfergus effective from Easter Sunday (31st March) onwards given the proximity to Newtownabbey.

Therefore, the final rota in Carrickfergus will be on Sunday 24th March 2024.
